Upper Mississippi River Trips
We will start our day trip at the famous river town of Hannibal,
Missouri. As we leave town we’ll float past
some spectacular bluffs that line the Mississippi River.
Among these bluffs you’ll find some interesting
local tourist attractions: Mark
Twain Cave, Sawyers
Creek and Lovers
Leap. As we float on down the river we will stop
along the way to have lunch and explore some of the
river's unique and interesting sand bars. Farther down
river as we conclude our trip,
we’ll float up on one of the most fascinating sites
that we’ll encounter throughout our trip, a Mississippi
River lock and dam, Lock and Dam #22. Locking through
one of these river locks in a canoe is an extraordinary
and
incredible experience in itself. Immediately after
we lock through, our exciting one-day river adventure
unfortunately
comes to an end. If you have joined us for an overnight
camping trip, this is only the end of the first day.
After
we lock
thru, we’ll stop for the night, camping on
the banks of the Mississippi River with a roaring
bonfire
and a bright full moon is an awesome
and captivating experience. After dinner we’ll
relax around the fire, listen to some good music
if you'd like and enjoy the good company of friends
and family.
The next morning we’ll enjoy a good breakfast,
break camp, load up the boats, and continue on down
the river. As we float along we start entering into
the Ted
Shanks Wildlife Management Area. This beautiful 9
mile stretch of river is bursting with wildlife and
waterfowl.
This vast wetland area is full of back water chutes
and river sloughs.
Iif the river level permits we will take a side trip
to explore one of these unique backwater chutes. Fritz
Island
is about 4 miles long and is divided
in half by one of these chutes. As we explore down thru this heavily wooded
area will experience many types of wildlife, everything from a river full
of waterfowl to a forest full of songbirds. As we emerge from this backwater
chute back into the main river channel we will float past the mouth of Salt
River and then conclude our trip in the historical river town of Louisiana,
MO. This is the end of your first weekend
river adventure with
River City Outfitters and you'll sure not want to make it your last!
Join us for a trip down Mark Twain's great river and you’ll understand
his great love and fascination with the mighty Mississippi River. The Mississippi
River has many more exciting river trips waiting just for you!
Come explore this great river the way it was discovered!
